Virgil Van Dijk Is The Best Dutchman Ever To Play In The Premier League

Chris Sutton has left many football fans scratching their heads after he made a bold claim about Virgil van Dijk.

The 27-year-old centre-back has become an integral part of Liverpool's squad and Jürgen Klopp's Premier League title-challenging ambitions this season.

However, Sutton believes that the Netherlands captain is the best Dutchman to have ever played in the Premier League's history.

That's right, he went there.

When he appeared on BT Sport's Saturday Morning Savage, host Robbie Savage asked who was the best Dutchman to play in England's top-tier league and the 45-year-old former footballer and manager responded with "van Dijk."

Former Reading and Fulham player Steve Sidwell couldn't believe what he was hearing, with him putting forward his choice: "Dennis Bergkamp all day long."

Considering the Premier League has boasted talent that included the likes of Robin van Persie, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben, Jaap Stam and Edwin van der Sar, it's hardly surprising that Sutton's choice has left many people puzzled.

In fact, football fans have shared their thoughts on him picking van Dijk ahead of the aforementioned names.

Trent Alexander-Arnold learned first hand not to end up getting on van Dijk's bad side when Liverpool took on Brighton & Hove Albion last month.

While the former Celtic and Southampton star is regarded as one of the best defenders currently in football, one fan had to shut down a comparison made between AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini and van Dijk.
