Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Donny van de Beek who could become a crucial player at Manchester United should the Argentine gaffer become the club's new manager.

Pochettino is thought to be Man United's ideal candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked on Sunday.

Sir Alex Ferguson wants the Paris Saint-Germain boss to take charge of the Old Trafford club, with talks reportedly already taken place.

The former Southampton and Tottenham manager is believed to be very keen on returning to the Premier League, having been linked with the Man United managerial post before.

And if he does indeed land the Man United job, then it could be good news for Van de Beek.

The Dutchman barely featured under Solskjaer, making just three league appearances this season.

He happened to score the final goal of the Norwegian's reign, but he could feature more regularly if Pochettino is at the helm judging by his praise of the 24-year-old in 2019.

Speaking ahead of Spurs' Champions League tie against Ajax, he told El Pais: "Van de Beek. Nobody talks much about him.

"But he has a dynamic in the game, he gets behind Tadic, he arrives, he works, he scores goals.

"Logically, I love De Jong and De Ligt. But the example of the operation of this Ajax is Van de Beek. I like very much," he added.

"They have a young player, from the academy, in each line, that shows what the team is."

Van de Beek has only made 22 league appearances since arriving from Ajax in 2020.

Though he could become a key man at Man United should Pochettino get the job.
