Wilfried Zaha has asked not to be called up by the Ivory Coast while he reconsiders his international future, that is according to boss Patrice Beaumelle.

The Sun reports that Zaha complained of feeling sick every time he returned to Crystal Palace after international duty.

The Eagles talisman missed his side's 2-2 draw with Arsenal after picking up an illness after Ivory Coast's win over Malawi.

"He asked not to come because he comes home sick at each meeting", Beaumelle said in quotes published by The Sun.

"He wants to reflect on the rest of his international career."

The Ivory Coast are now looking forward to World Cup qualifiers against Mozambique on 13th November, before playing away at Cameroon three days later.

Beaumelle's side currently sit top of their group and will advance to the final stage of the African World Cup qualifying process if they finish in pole position.

The 10 group winners in the second phase of qualifying will then face each other in one-off, two-legged ties, with the victors each securing a place in Qatar next year.

Zaha controversially switched allegiances from England to the Ivory Coast in 2016 after earning two senior caps for the Three Lions, both of these in friendly matches.

Roy Hodgson handed the winger his debut in a 4-2 defeat to Sweden in November 2012, before he represented England again in a 3-2 win over Scotland nine months later.

The 28-year-old currently has 20 caps for the Ivory Coast since choosing to play for the Elephants, but the last of his 5 goals came in a 3-1 victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo in October 2019.

Success has come far easier in Palace shirt though, with Zaha scoring 3 goals and registering 1 assist across 10 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Patrick Vieira's side are next in action against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
