Zlatan Ibrahimovic Warns Manchester United To ‘Stop Living In Past’ After Solskjaer's Sacking

The 40-year-old, who played at Old Trafford for two seasons, has some choice words for his former club.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has spoken out on what Manchester United need to change moving forwards, as the club prepares to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's successor.

The Swede played for United between 2016 and 2018, racking up an impressive 29 goals in just 53 appearances across all competitions.

During that period, he helped the side win the Europa League, as well as a first League Cup trophy in seven years.

Ibrahimovic subsequently went on to have spells at LA Galaxy and former side AC Milan - where he continues to score regularly at the age of 40.

Not one for standing still, the forward has some sage advice for another of his former clubs - who he believes is still quagmired in the past.

Ibrahimovic states that United must cut emotional ties with their many successes in bygone eras, and instead focus on the present day.

"They talk too much about the past. When I went there I said: 'I'm here to focus on the present and to make my own story," he recently told The Guardian.

"But when you have too much it becomes like a loop. You have to think about the present or you should go to a hospital and clean your head."

His comments come on the back of Solskjaer's sacking as Manchester United manager, an appointment that many have since lambasted as one fuelled by nostalgia, rather than a sincere belief in his managerial acumen.

Nevertheless, the former Barcelona star may finally be getting his wish, as United look to be pressing on with the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.

The 49-year-old has quickly emerged as the Premier League club's top managerial target following Solskjaer's dismissal on Sunday.

According to multiple reports, Pochettino's representatives have indicated that the Argentine is willing to leave his current position as PSG boss in order to secure his dream job at Old Trafford.
