Neymar keeps it real with passionate defence of Antony amid showboating row

Neymar keeps it real with passionate defence of Antony amid showboating row

Neymar backed Antony following the showboating backlash.

Neymar has jumped to the defence of Antony after he came under fire for performing his trademark spin during Manchester United's victory over Sheriff.

Antony showboated in the first-half of his side's Europa League clash on Thursday before being dragged off at the break by Erik ten Hag.

The player's spin angered Robbie Savage on commentary as he called it 'embarrassing' in a furious response.

Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves also hit out at the forward as the pair of former Man United midfielders slammed his antics.

But the 22-year-old fired back at his critics in a defiant message.

On social media, he wrote: "We are known for our art and I will not stop doing what has brought me to where I am!"

Antony's international colleague Neymar has now weighed in on the showboating row.

The Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil superstar has defended Antony's spin. He shared a clip of the move, accompanied with the caption: "Keep it up, don’t change anything! Go for it boy! Boldness and joy."

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag denied it was the reason he substituted him at half-time.

The Dutch boss also said he doesn't have a problem with showboating as long as it's functional.

"I don't have a problem with tricks as long as it's functional," he said after his team's 3-0 win.

"I demand more from him - more runs behind, more often in the box and more playing in the pocket.

"When there is a trick like that, it's nice as long as it's functional. If you're not losing the ball, then it's OK - but if it's a trick because of a trick, then I will correct him."

Antony could keep his place in the starting XI when Man United resume their Premier League on Sunday at home to West Ham United.
