Neymar claims modern football is 'getting boring' in brutally honest and revealing interview

Neymar claims modern football is 'getting boring' in brutally honest and revealing interview

"Football is getting boring and we can't celebrate."

Neymar has called modern football 'boring' after being booked for celebrating in Paris Saint-Germain's 3-1 win over Maccabi Haifa.

The Brazil winger scored PSG's third goal in their Champions League Group H clash on Wednesday evening and decided to bust out his trademark celebration.

He put his thumbs to his head and stuck his tongue out, which is believed to be in tribute to his son.

Referee Daniel Siebert didn't see the funny side and booked Neymar for his actions, something he protested against to no avail.

The 30-year-old slammed the decision in his post-match interview and had a few words on the current state of football.

He vented per the Mirror: "I just met the referee and talked to him. He apologized. But now I already have the yellow card. This is a complete lack of respect for the players. The referees have to be there to protect us.

"What happened to me today is very sad. Football is getting boring and we can't celebrate.

"This is a lack of respect not only for me, but for football."

Neymar continued his tirade on social media, posting a lengthy message to his Twitter page.

The former Barcelona man claimed: "Total lack of respect for the athlete. This kind of thing can't happen.

"I take the yellow for simply not having done anything and I continue to be harmed. And the judge? Not even to say he was wrong, he will! A lot of lack of respect."

PSG are top of Group H after two wins from two and Neymar is having a strong start to the season.

He's scored 11 goals and registered seven goals in just 10 games so far, with Christophe Galtier's side unbeaten in all competitions.

It's no secret the French giants are obsessed with winning the Champions League and Neymar, along with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, will be key to that.
