Saudi Pro League club 'prepared to offer mammoth deal' to Neymar after Lionel Messi rejection

Saudi Pro League club 'prepared to offer mammoth deal' to Neymar after Lionel Messi rejection

The Saudi Pro League turns its attentions to Neymar.

Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are interested in signing PSG star Neymar this summer after missing out on Lionel Messi, according to a new report.

Messi had received offers from the Saudi Arabian club to join them, but opted to sign for MLS franchise Inter Miami instead.

COPE journalist Helena Condis claimed on Wednesday that Al Hilal made a last-minute attempt to acquire the Argentinian, offering him a contract worth €1.5 billion over three seasons.

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced earlier this week that they had acquired majority control of four of the nation's top domestic clubs - Al Hilal, Al Nassr, Al Ittihad and Al Ahli.

A number of seismic moves are expected to be made this summer, with Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema having already agreed to join Al Ittihad once his contract at the Bernabeu expires at the end of this month.

N'Golo Kante has agreed a deal to join the same club from Chelsea, but an Al Ittihad source told AFP (via GFFN) that his move has been stalled by medical issues.

Manchester City pair Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan have also been linked with potential moves to Saudi Arabia, while Real midfielder Luka Modric has also received an offer.

Now, the league has reportedly turned its attentions to Neymar.

Neymar linked with Saudi Arabia move

According to CBS Sports, delegates from Al Hilal flew to Paris on Friday in order to 'test the waters' over a potential swoop for Neymar.

It is claimed that the Saudi club are prepared to pay 'in the region of €45 million' as a transfer fee, but they have not yet sent an offer to the Ligue 1 champions. Planned personal terms are said to comparable to Cristiano Ronaldo, who earns around €200 million a year at Al Nassr.

The report adds that Al Hilal are keen to secure an alternative marquee signing after being unable to entice Messi to the league, and Neymar 'ticks all the boxes'.

It is added that the club wants to build on a rivalry with Ronaldo's Al Nassr side, with the signing of Neymar creating key marketing opportunities for the league in that respect.

The Brazilian has a contract at PSG until 2025, and scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists in 20 Ligue 1 appearances this term. However, he missed the last three months of the campaign through injury.
