Neymar Would Be A 'Downgrade' On Raheem Sterling For Manchester City

Neymar Would Be A 'Downgrade' On Raheem Sterling For Manchester City

The PSG forward has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium after they sold Sterling to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Neymar isn't as consistent as Raheem Sterling, and would be a 'downgrade' from the England forward if Manchester City signed him.

Sterling left the Premier League champions earlier this summer, in a £50 million move to join Chelsea, after Pep Guardiola's side signed Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez.

With Gabriel Jesus having also left the club, there has been talk of City being one forward short in their squad, with their title defence starting in just over two weeks time.

They have been linked with a potential move for Neymar, with the Brazilian's future at PSG far from certain, after they managed to keep hold of Kylian Mbappe.

Whilst most people would love to see the former Barcelona star in the Premier League, Trevor Sinclair doesn't believe it would be a good move for City.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former City player claimed that Neymar would be a 'downgrade' and complained that he is only a one if four player, rather than a three in four player that Sterling is.

Sinclair needn't worry about his former team trying to sign the 30-year-old however, as they've already turned down the chance to sign him.

Reportedly, the Ligue 1 champions offered their English counterparts the chance to sign Neymar and they wanted Bernardo Silva in return.

That's no real surprise considering the Portuguese midfielder's importance to the team, however, he could still be leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Silva has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, potentially as a replacement for Frenkie de Jong, and he's supposedly already agreed to go to the Nou Camp.

With City not looking likely to sign Neymar, it leaves Haaland as their biggest signing of the summer, although the Norwegian is currently missing from pre season with an injury.

He gave a speech to the rest of the squad on his arrival on the tour to America, which Jack Grealish shared, after being given a warm welcome by his new teammates.

The 22-year-old will be hoping to hit the ground running when the season kicks off in two weeks time, and could yet get his first competitive minutes against Liverpool in the Community Shield a week on Saturday.
