Manchester United are considering a shock loan move for former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.

Manchester United are considering a shock loan move for former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, according to a fresh report.

The 36-year-old has been in rejuvenated form since moving to AC Milan in the summer of 2021.

The striker has continued to defy expectations, having already netted nine goals in his 19 Serie A matches this term.

Meanwhile, at international level, Giroud surpassed Thierry Henry to become France’s highest-ever scorer at the World Cup in Qatar.

Nevertheless, the forward is out of contract at the end of the season and the Serie A giants are yet to have offered a new deal.

Giroud to Man Utd?

Milan’s loss could be United’s gain. Erik ten Hag’s side have been keen on signing a striker since the acrimonious departure of Cristiano Ronaldo on the eve of the World Cup.

However, the Old Trafford club’s transfer plans appear to have been affected by the Glazer’s attempts to sell the club as well as last summer’s eye-watering £227million transfer spend.

With less money available to ten Hag, United are reportedly considering making a move for Giroud.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, United have enquired about Giroud's availability. However a prospective deal has not yet progressed given the Premier League giants reportedly want to tie the player down to a loan.

Meanwhile The Times also claim the Frenchman is a target, with Milan unlikely to offer the player fresh terms.

The publication added that Giroud would reportedly consider a return to England if United offered a contract longer than the 12-month deal Milan would likely present him with.

Of course, the striker has a long affiliation with the Premier League, having spent six years at Arsenal where he netted 105 times in all competitions.

He then joined rivals Chelsea, and in his three years there he claimed three trophies, including the Champions League in 2021.

Elsewhere, United have also been linked with Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix, former player Memphis Depay, now of Barcelona, and Giroud's international teammate Marcus Thuram as the club look to resolve their striker woes.
