Phil Foden Set To Earn More Than Seven Times More With New Contract

Phil Foden Set To Earn More Than Seven Times More With New Contract

Foden's deal will see him become one of Manchester City's top earners and stay with the Premier League champions for another six years.

Phil Foden is set for a huge wage increase at Manchester City, which will see the forward's wages sky rocket by over seven times his current deal.

The 22-year-old has become an increasingly important part of Pep Guardiola's plans in recent years and the sales of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus means he's even more likely to start games in the upcoming season.

Despite that, the youngsters contract remains the same one he signed in December 2018, not long into his time as being a first team player for the Premier League champions.

That reportedly means that he's been on 'just' £30,000-a-week basic wages, whilst being a major part of last season's title winning campaign.

However, according to the Daily Mail, that is about to change, following reports of a new contract, with the paper claiming Foden has now agreed to a deal.

The claim is that Foden will sign a six year contract worth seven and a half times more than his current wages, taking him to £225,000-a-week.

Foden's deal at the Etihad wasn't due to expire for another two years but, with the deal having been on the table for a number of months, it will come as a boost to Guardiola to confirm the new deal.

Foden had initially been offered a £150,000-a-week contract by the Abu Dhabi owned club but had rejected it, gambling to make more money, and being proved right.

The England international can now go about focusing on the upcoming campaign, with the champions starting their title defence against West Ham on Sunday.

They have already been dealt a bit of a blow, having lost last Sunday's Community Shield game to Liverpool, with new boy Erling Haaland being criticised.

Guardiola's new signing missed a quite the sitter, whilst Liverpool's fellow new striker, Darwin Nunez, whose goal tally will be compared to Haaland's all season, was on the scoresheet.

The Norwegian had previously claimed that he was looking forward to his new teammate, Foden, developing further but he'll have to make sure he's putting his own chances away.

The team were criticised as a whole, after claims they didn't collect their runners up medals, but the manager said that they had got them.
