Viral footage emerges of Saudi Arabia 'fan' switching to Robert Lewandowski shirt after Poland striker scored, it is incredible

"Give him a Polish citizenship." Robert Lewandowski's strike for Poland at the World Cup sent one Saudi Arabia 'fan' in the crowd wild.

A Saudi Arabia ‘fan’ went viral on social media after hilariously swapping to a Robert Lewandowski shirt in Poland’s 2-0 World Cup win on Saturday.

Poland strengthened their chances of reaching the last 16 after Lewandowski set up Piotr Zielinski for their side’s opener in the first half at the Education City Stadium.

Saudi Arabia, who caused a stunning upset against Argentina on Tuesday, were handed a lifeline after Poland’s Krystian Bielik fouled Saleh Al-Shehri inside the box and were subsequently awarded a penalty.

However, Poland No 1 Wojciech Szczesny denied Feras Al-Brikan from the spot-kick with a superb save before denying Mohammed Al-Burayk’s rebounded effort with a stunning one-handed stop.

Lewandowski ensured Poland took home all three points after pouncing on a sloppy mistake from Abdulellah Al-Malki and coolly slotting past Mohammed Al-Owais.

The 34-year-old Barcelona striker wheeled away in celebration after scoring for the first time ever in a World Cup competition, with Saudi Arabia unable to equalise before the full-time whistle.

Lewandowski’s strike might well have been overshadowed by one Saudi fan’s reaction in the crowd, with the supporter taking off his shirt in favour of a Poland top.

The fan, whose Poland top had Lewandowski and No 9 on the back, can hilariously be seen dancing around in celebration of the former Bayern Munich star’s strike (watch it above).

“Can’t even lie, this is me. I’ll switch a team in a heartbeat,” one fan wrote.

While another tweeted: “I’m sorry, this is so funny.”

Another fan added: “Give him a Polish citizenship.”

And a fourth fan said: “These are my favourite type of videos during the [World Cup].”

Lewandowski missed a crucial penalty in Poland’s 0-0 draw with Mexico on Tuesday, with Czeslaw Michniewicz’s men walking away with a point at the Stadium 974.

However, Poland can ensure their place in the last 16 of the World Cup if they secure at least a draw against Argentina on Wednesday.
