Portuguese Federation will present evidence to FIFA proving 'Hair of God' goal was Cristiano Ronaldo's

Portuguese Federation will present evidence to FIFA proving 'Hair of God' goal was Cristiano Ronaldo's

They are set to appeal to have the goal under the number seven’s name and equal Eusebio’s record.

The Portuguese Football Federation is planning to present evidence to FIFA to prove the first goal against Uruguay was Cristiano Ronaldo’s and not Bruno Fernandes’.

Controversy ensued after it looked as though the football megastar had scored the opener for Portugal in their 2-0 win against Uruguay.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner celebrated after appearing to connect with a glancing header from a Bruno Fernandes cross.

However, moments later after VAR checked the goal, it was awarded to his former Manchester United teammate.

Ronaldo was ultimately surprised to not have been given the goal, and even texted Piers Morgan claiming it was his.

‘Hair of God’ even trended online after his desperate plea to be awarded the goal.

While the former Manchester United striker ego’s may certainly be getting the best of him, you can’t really blame him considering it would mean he equals Eusebio’s Portuguese record of nine goals at the World Cup.

And it looks like the Portuguese Federation may just be backing his claim as well.

According to Chiringuigo TV reporter Edu Aguirre, the football body is going the extra distance to have the goal awarded to Ronaldo.

They are set to make an appeal to FIFA with further evidence to have the goal under the number seven’s name and equal Eusebio’s record.

Imagine being Bruno Fernandes and having your own country against you despite scoring a crucial goal.

Although, it may all be in vein, however, Adidas claims to have used technology to ‘definitively show’ that no contact was made between Cristiano’s head and the ball.

Adidas have used the 500Hz sensor inside this year's World Cup ball to confirm Ronaldo did not touch the ball.

A statement from Adidas read: “In the match between Portugal and Uruguay, using the Connected Ball Technology housed in Adidas’s Al Rihla Official Match Ball, we are able to definitively show no contact on the ball from Cristiano Ronaldo for the opening goal in the game.

Adidas.

“No external force on the ball could be measured as shown by the lack of ‘heartbeat’ in our measurements and in the attached graphic.

“The 500Hz IMU sensor inside the ball allows us to be highly accurate in our analysis.”

In his post-match interview on Monday night, Bruno Fernandes admitted he thought Ronaldo had equalled Eusebio's record of nine World Cup goals when he jumped to meet his cross.

“I celebrated as if it had been Cristiano's goal," he said. "It seemed to me that he had touched the ball. My aim was to cross the ball for him.

“We are happy with the victory regardless of who scored. The most important thing is that we achieved our aim which is to be in the next round.”
