Paul Merson says Liverpool should sell Mohamed Salah and buy Bukayo Saka

Paul Merson says Liverpool should sell Mohamed Salah and buy Bukayo Saka

On Soccer Saturday, Paul Merson claimed that Liverpool should sell Salah and replace him with Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka.

Paul Merson has made a bold claim on this week's edition of Soccer Saturday, as he thinks Liverpool should still sell Mohamed Salah if another offer comes in.

The ex-Arsenal player turned pundit claimed that Liverpool should accept Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad's next offer for the Egyptian, which is rumoured to be around £200 million.

This is despite the fact that the British transfer window is now shut, meaning that the Reds would be unable to replace their star player if they were to cash in.

Al-Ittihad have already had a bid worth a total of £150 million rejected by the Merseyside outfit, with Klopp standing firm on Salah staying.

Merson has said that should Liverpool accept the bid, they would then theoretically be able to sign Arsenal talisman Bukayo Saka in the January window as Salah's replacement.

"Do they sell him for £200 million and then in January see if they can get Saka from Arsenal for 150?

"I'm thinking, one person's 31 (years old), if I can get £200 million who's the next one in line? Who's going to be the next big thing?

"Who's the next one in line? It's definitely Saka, he's the best right winger about after Salah!"

Clinton Morrison also chimed in saying: "If it doesn't happen by Thursday (the Saudi Pro League transfer deadline), it will definitely happen next year."

The winger looks to be a top target for Al-Ittihad, who are not showing signs of giving up just yet with under a week of the Saudi Pro League transfer window left.

Liverpool's 2022/23 top scorer is still playing a key role with a goal and two assists in the opening three Premier League games, and one assist being for Nunez's dramatic winner over Newcastle last weekend.

Bukayo Saka is an Arsenal fan and has rose through the ranks at their academy to the first team and is now one of the Gunners' star players, so a move to Liverpool may currently look highly unlikely, but weirder things have happened in football.
