Fans brand Premier League POTS award a 'joke' after world-class player left out of nominees

The Premier League Player of the Season shortlist has been revealed by fans can't believe one player isn't included.

Fans have branded the Premier League Player of the Season a "joke" after seeing one major omission from the nominees.

The list for both the Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season was announced, with four players featuring across both shortlists.

Arsenal pair Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard are shoo-ins, while Cole Palmer is included after a stunning season with Chelsea.

Ollie Watkins and Alexander Isak are included following their impressive goalscoring feats for Aston Villa and Newcastle respectively.

The eight-person list is completed by Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Phil Foden - two of the favourites for the gong.

However, there has been mass uproar online as fans think a third City player should have been in the mix.

Spain midfielder Rodri is arguably the best in the world at what he does and in the middle of a crazy 71-game unbeaten run.

Every one of City's losses this season came without him in the side and in addition to controlling the team's tempo, he has also contributed further with seven goals and nine assists from midfield.

One fan fumed: "Wonder if Rodri gives a sh** or not but to not even be included in this list when he's probably been the best player in the league every time he's stepped on the pitch this season is truly hilarious."

A second said: "Where’s Rodri?? I think we need to start a GoFundMe for Rodri at this point!".

A third fumed: "The disrespect of Rodri is actually a joke."

Another replied: "No Rodri? You guys are not serious."

A final person added: "How has Rodri not been nominated ? This is shocking, the football world doesn’t deserve him."

Voting for the award is now open, with the winner, decided by a combination of votes from fans and experts, being announced on 18 May.
