Prince William once trained with Charlton Athletic during a visit to the club back in 2005.
Charlton was in the Premier League at the time and they welcomed the Prince onto the training field as then manager Alan Curbishley said he wanted to ‘see what he’s got.’
The Prince of Wales visited the club’s training facilities back in October of 2005 prior to him becoming the Football Association’s president in May 2006.

During his visit, the Prince met and trained with Charlton’s first team players and youngsters from a community project. He was faced with chants of ‘dodgy keeper’ when he went in goal for a while.
Curbishley said at the time, per the BBC: “He looks like someone who likes to stick the ball in the back of the net.
“Being landed in south London with a group of people that he perhaps doesn't know too much about, we will try to let him enjoy himself. If we can get a pair of boots that fit him we will see what he's got.”

Prince William said: “I want to be a contributor, I don't want to be just a figurehead. I want to help the guys and... just generally support football in every way I can.”
The Prince has remained in the role as the Football Association’s president since he took over from his uncle, the Duke of York in 2006.
More recently, Prince William was at Wembley for England women’s Euro 2022 triumph. Where he was seen hugging legendary midfielder Jill Scott during the trophy ceremony.

Upon Scott’s retirement announcement, the Prince sent her a brilliant message.
He said on Twitter: “A pioneer of Women’s football and a great team player. @jillscottjs8 congratulations on a wonderful career, it’s been a pleasure to get to know you.
“Tiny bit pleased there won’t be any more slide tackles during ‘friendly’ kickabouts.”
After a visit to the team’s training camp in June, the Prince of Wales wrote: “This squad is already inspiring the next generation of women and girls to play football, reaping the mental and physical benefits of activity.”
