Steven Gerrard 'on shortlist' to become new PSG boss

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is reportedly on the shortlist to become the new manager of Paris Saint Germain.

French Ligue 1 leaders PSG are currently going through a bit of a tough time as performances and results have been way below the expected high standards.

The Parc des Princes club did however end a run of three defeats on the bounce after Lionel Messi’s stunning free kick in stoppage time clinched a much-needed 4-3 victory over Lille on Sunday.

According to The Scottish Daily Express, PSG bosses are growing increasingly frustrated with current manager Christophe Galtier after their recent poor run of form.

PSG were knocked out of the French Cup by Marseille and were beaten by Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie.

It has been reported that the club’s Qatari owners are eyeing up a surprise move for Gerrard, who they see as a major high-profile name.

The report also claimed that PSG are open to bringing back former boss Thomas Tuchel, who took them to the Champions League final in 2020 and has been out of a job since he was sacked by Chelsea in September.

If Gerrard was to be named the new boss of the French giants, it would be a massive revival after his disappointing spell in charge of Aston Villa.

The former Liverpool captain attracted Villa’s interest after winning the Scottish Premier League with Rangers, stopping arch-rivals Celtic from winning the title for a 10th consecutive season.

After a promising start to his time in charge at Villa Park, things unravelled quickly for Gerrard in the 22/23 season, after a run of poor results, he was sacked and replaced by former Arsenal and PSG manager Unai Emery.

Since leaving Villa, Gerrard was linked with multiple jobs including Premier League clubs Leeds United and Southampton. The 42-year-old was also linked with the Poland job before they eventually hired ex-Portugal manager Fernando Santos.
