Raheem Sterling's form is worrying for England ahead of the World Cup

Raheem Sterling's form is worrying for England ahead of the World Cup

Sterling's highlights from Brighton have surfaced and it shows him, once again, really struggling for form ahead of the World Cup.

Raheem Sterling's compilation against Brighton shows the England star in worrying form ahead of the World Cup.

Chelsea fell to a 4-1 loss at the Amex Stadium yesterday, but Sterling stood out for his lacklustre performance once again.

Having joined from Manchester City in the summer, he's only managed three goals in 11 Premier League games and only four across all competitions.

He's also not scored in the league for two months, with his last goal coming in the 2-1 defeat to Southampton at the end of August.

Now fans and pundits alike are starting to turn their focus to the World Cup and debating whether Sterling would be picked to go for England on current form.

How worrying is his form? Well, according to Pat Nevin (BBC) he believes that Sterling is 'not even in contention' for the World Cup on current form.

In defence of the former City and Liverpool winger, he had begun well under Thomas Tuchel before he was sacked by Chelsea.

Since the arrival of Graham Potter, he's been utilised more as a wing-back than he has a forward which has hurt his form, leading to no goals in eight, with only one assist to his name.

One fan tweeted: 'No joke, Raheem Sterling might be worse than Timo Werner'

With another saying: 'He will go and he’ll start and finish every game at the world cup because that is what Gareth Southgate does'

One fan defended him claiming: 'Raheem Sterling at wing back is such a waste of time. He's an attacker and a goalscorer. Play him there.'

Sterling has been one of England's key players since Gareth Southgate took over the reigns in 2017 and, despite his woeful form, it's likely he'll be on the plane regardless.

Since making his debut aged 17 in 2012, he's racked up 19 goals and 25 assists in 79 appearances for his country.

He was insatiable at the Euros last summer, scoring vital goals against Croatia, Czech Republic and Germany.

But is yet to score in a World Cup finals and his form heading into Qatar is worrying for a player who started every game in last summer's tournament.
