Aaron Ramsdale brutally mocked for saying "we're back" in Europa League advert

Aaron Ramsdale brutally mocked for saying "we're back" in Europa League advert

The BT Sport advert provided plenty of ammunition for Spurs fans, seemingly still gloating over their side pipping Arsenal to fourth place.

A Europa League advert featuring Gabriel Jesus and Aaron Ramsdale has been doing the rounds on social media, after the Arsenal stopper said 'We're back baby' in the middle of it.

Playing in the Europa League wasn't exactly Arsenal's aim for this season, as they are only doing so after missing out on a Premier League top four finish - and hence a Champions League berth - to North London rivals Tottenham.

While the Gunners did fairly well to finish 5th in last season's Premier League (in spite of some early struggles), it seems unlikely that Ramsdale would be so gleeful about returning to the competition - especially at the expense of the Champions League.

While some European football is better than none at all, as was the case last season, the club still fell just short of their main target.

As you might imagine, gloating Spurs fans were quick to jump on this PR own goal, with clips from the BT Sport advert in question soon doing the rounds on TikTok and Twitter.

Many users uploaded clips from the commercial, with one person captioning their video: "As if Ramsdale has just said "we're back" in an advert for EUROPA football", with several crying laughing faces after.

Arsenal begin their Europa League journey tomorrow (8 September) away at FC Zurich in Switzerland, where they will be looking for a big performance after Sunday's disappointing defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

However, keen to twist the blade in just a bit more, some fans of rival clubs couldn't help but comment on Ramsdale's "We're back baby" comment.

One Spurs fan wrote on Twitter: "Banter FC has returned", with another adding "We're back baby! Like its what they wanted last season."

A third Spurs supporter chimed in with: Thursday Night Playing Zurich FC Away, Just What The Doctor Ordered. Depression."

Some Gunners jumped to BT's and Ramsdale's defence, pointing out how they're just trying to drum up interest for the competition as anybody would do in a similar position.

One Twitter user wrote: "Out of interest, what are you expecting them to do in the advert?"

A second retorted to a comment from a Spurs an: "It's better than nothing so it's an improvement technically," referring to the fact that Arsenal had no European football to speak of last season.

Whatever your perspective, it will be fascinating to see how seriously Arsenal do take the Europa League this season, knowing how desperate manager Mikel Arteta will be to secure Champions League qualification this time around.
