Marcus Rashford told that he shouldn't go to the World Cup

Marcus Rashford told that he shouldn't go to the World Cup

Lianne Sanderson has claimed on talkSPORT that Marcus Rashford doesn't deserve to go to the international showpiece over other strikers.

Marcus Rashford has been told that he hasn't been good enough to be in the World Cup squad by ex-Lionesses forward, Lianne Sanderson.

Rashford has currently been undergoing a resurgence in form for Manchester United following a poor 2021/22 season, managing seven goals and three assists in 16 appearances for the Red Devils so far.

But that isn't enough for Lianne Sanderson, who claims: "Marcus Rashford has scored 100 goals for Manchester United, he's only 25, he's still young and he's got a lot to offer."

"But for me, he doesn't do enough. Maybe if it's the 70th minute and you need to bring someone on. But is Rashford going to get you a goal more than an Ivan Toney? It's hypothetical."

"Rashford hasn't played consistently enough. It's almost like he scores a goal and everyone says he should be in the England squad!" Sanderson explained.

"I've heard people say he should be starting for England!"

"To be someone that's going there guaranteed, I'm not quite sure. How do you say to a Callum Wilson or an Ivan Toney, we're not going to pick you but we're going to pick Rashford. (They are) Players that have scored goals consistently."

Marcus Rashford is currently in good form, with two goals in his last three games. Both of his goals were headers too, as he has recently added that to his game.

Though his best position may be on the left wing, the Mancunian has been eager to play down the middle for Manchester United this season, with it working a treat against Arsenal particularly as he bagged two goals in a 3-1 win.

Looking at the Premier League alone, Toney and Wilson have 8 and 6 league goals respectively to Rashford's 4.

Ivan Toney has been a particularly good season, with a hat-trick against Leeds being the highlight of so far, sending a message to England manager Gareth Southgate.

Callum Wilson is in red-hot form though, with three goals and an assist in his last 2 league games as he leads the line in Newcastle's surprise push for Top 4.

Toney and Wilson are looked at as no.9s and Rashford is still very much a winger, despite trying to come out of his comfort zone this season.

All 3 of these attackers have been in great form this season, no doubt leaving Gareth Southgate with a major headache for his squad selection.

It may not be a case of one of these players making it, but it is highly unlikely that all three will be on the plane to Qatar.
