There was a time when Renato Sanches was one of the best prospects in European football. Now though he's struggling to adapt to the Premier League, something given an exclamation point by his stats last night.

In Louis van Gaal's last season in charge of Manchester United he sent one of his stats to watch Benfica on a nearly weekly basis to watch Renato Sanches, he seemed destined to move to Old Trafford.

History tells us that once again United missed out on a player from the Estádio da Luz and instead Bayern jumped in ahead of the Red Devils and signed the youngster in the summer of 2016.

The 20 year-old now finds himself fighting relegation with Swansea City whilst on loan. In a struggling team and trying to adapt to the football things really aren't going well for the former Golden Boy winner.

As per the Independent the youngsters stats really were poor on Wednesday night. Sanches finished his 45 minutes with 66% pass accuracy, 0 shots on goal and was twice dispossessed.

There was also his pass:

After the match manager Paul Clement, who pulled the player off at half time, said the midfielders struggles are down to a lack of confidence and backed him to come back, saying:

"He's a player struggling for confidence, he's struggling for form. We believe we're the right environment to try and get him out of that.

"I don't think in any of the games he's played this year he's showed the kind of talent he has. I feel for him because he's a very talented player."

It hardly helps the former Benfica man that he's currently in a side underperforming so much and find themselves firmly in the relegation zone. Young players have patches of bad form at the best of time.

There's still plenty of time for him to turn it all around.
