It was the scene no Chelsea fan wanted to see ahead of tonight's Europa League final.

Just 24 hours before kick-off, teammates David Luiz and Gonzalo Higuain appeared to engage in a heated exchange during a routine training session at Baku's Olympic Stadium.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri then threw his hat to the ground twice, booted it and then stormed down the tunnel before the session had finished.

It originally appeared that the coming together between Higuain and Luiz stemmed from Higuain going in late on the Brazilian defender, but new footage has emerged which may play down those suggestions.

Was this the moment that led to the pair exiting the Chelsea training session early?

Luiz clearly leaves a flailing elbow on his teammate, as he tries to shield the ball, hitting him in the face.

A Chelsea spokesman his since cleared up why Sarri walked off the pitch during the session, suggesting that is was due to not being able to practice set-plays in the final 15 minutes:

"Maurizio's frustration displayed at the end of training was not related to any of his players," the spokesman said.

"But was due to not being able to practice set-plays in the final 15 minutes of the hour-long training session as it remained open to media."

The below footage also shows that Higuain was far from happy with what went on in the session:
