Two More Barcelona Stars Agree To Make Salary Cuts

As Barcelona are still in the midst of a financial crisis, two more players have agreed to take salary reductions to help the club.

Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto are both reportedly close to agreeing wage cuts as Barcelona continue to suffer from serious financial problems.

It has been well documented in recent months that the Catalan giants have been suffering financially with an astonishing €1.35 billion worth of debt which has contributed to the departure of the club's greatest ever player Lionel Messi.

Last week, it was reported that Gerard Pique had chosen to take a significant pay cut to alleviate some of Barcelona's problems and help register new signings Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero.

According to reports, Busquets and Roberto have followed in Pique's footsteps with Jordi Alba set to do the same.

When the club president Joan Laporta was discussing the club's problems earlier this month, he gave insight into what some of the players may be required to do to help the situation: "Players have a fixed salary and bonuses for performance and trophies. Some like Pique have agreed reductions.

"Others are contemplating a deferral or a lowering of their bonuses. We are looking for solutions, to restructure it all, the whole squad.

"The squad already reduced salaries due to COVID. Now we ask for a second effort, first response is surprise as nobody likes to lower their salary. But given the situation they are starting to understand and we trust we can resolve it asap with captains, then other players."

In Laporta's shocking press conference last month, he largely blamed the horrendous situation the club finds itself in on the previous president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

After Bartomeu claimed Laporta's revelations were "full of lies", the current club president said: "I would remind Bartomeu of all the damage the Neymar deal did to Barça's image. There were 4 open cases with Neymar, we thought best for Barça's interests to settle and avoid more risks."

There are other players who are considering taking wage reductions whilst Barcelona are still looking to sell players in order to generate some cash.
