The second gameweek of the 2022/2023 Champions League campaign sees RB Leipzig head to Spain to face the defending champions Real Madrid, in what will be a tough encounter for the German side.

Madrid got off to a strong start in their defence of Europe’s most sought after silverware, with a 3-0 win over Scottish champions Celtic.

Second half goals from Hazard, Modric and Vini Jr. saw them earn a comfortable three points at Celtic Park, a stadium that is traditionally tricky to visit.

The Madridsta’s impressive performance was no surprise when you consider their fine form in their domestic league.

The 14 times Champions League winners sit at the top of La Liga after comfortably winning all their first 5 games.

RB Leipzig on the other hand have had a sporadic start to the season. Last year’s Europa League semi-finalists have already beaten Dortmund 3-0 this campaign, but have also lost 4-0 to Frankfurt in the Bundesliga and 4-1 to Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening UCL fixture.

Marco Rose will be hoping his team can steady the ship and put in an impressive performance that will earn them a strong result at the Bernabeu this evening.

Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig Team News:

Carlo Ancelotti will again be missing his key men Karim Benzema and Eder Militao for the game, but the two have a chance to recover from injury in time for the Madrid derby this weekend.

Lucas Vasquez is also a doubt due to a thigh issue he picked up at the weekend, whilst Alvaro Adriazola is awaiting assessment on a recent muscular problem.

For the visitors, only Dani Olmo and Lukas Klostermann are set to be unavailable. The German side boast a strong squad other than this, with attacking trio Timo Werner, Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai set to start up top.
