Rio Ferdinand Labels Man United As ‘One Of The Worst’ At Paying Tribute To Outgoing Players After United Exit Left Him ‘P****D Off’

Former England defender Rio Ferdinand has given his thoughts on the 'lack of tribute' for Jesse Lingard ahead of this departure

Rio Ferdinand has said that his former club is ‘one of the worst’ at paying tribute to outgoing players, with his own United exit in 2014 leaving him ‘p****d off’.

Ferdinand spoke about his former club after Jesse Lingard’s final Old Trafford appearance a fortnight ago turned into 90 minutes on the bench, which resulted in Lingard’s brother, Louie Scott taking to social media to have a furious swipe at the Old Trafford club.

Lingard is likely to leave United at the end of the season as his contract comes to an end, his United career ends in bitter disappointment as the attacking midfielder only managed two league starts throughout the campaign.

Having joined United at the age of just seven, Lingard had hoped to say goodbye to the Old Trafford crowd on the pitch but Ralf Rangnick did not grant him his wish. Which led to Scott’s outburst.

Scott said on Instagram: “ 20 years of blood, sweat and tears, 4 domestic trophies, 3 cup final goal, not even a farewell. No wonder it's Conference League next year.

Attacking players for celebrations when the clubs being sold to the super league ok. Class of 92, Busby Babes, you’re ran by people who don’t even know the offside trap. Classless and the fans need to realise. Goodnight, godbless!

Been there since nine years of age and didn’t even get a send off!!! Well done bro your family are proud.”

Former United defender spoke about his own exit from the club in 2014 whilst on his vibe with five podcast.

The former defender said: “I think United are one of the worst at doing it, you see clubs abroad when players who have given big chunks of their career, been successful to the clubs, the send-offs they get are phenomenal and rightly so.

But it’s not something… United don’t really treat it with the kind of importance you see at other clubs. But it happens, I was actually p****d off for a while with the way I got told, I’m over it now, it’s cool.”

Ferdinand also commented on Lingard’s brother’s heavy worded message, he said: “Jesse’s brother, I understand how they feel, hot behind the collar, not happy with what’s happened.

But you’ve got to show a bit of awareness, look at the history of what United have done with players who have done more than Jesse, they haven’t been afforded that send-off, so you’d probably put the brakes on reacting the way he did, but everyone’s different.”
