Olivier Giroud and Thibaut Courtois were caught discussing Timo Werner's miss from four yards during half time of the Champions League semi final on Tuesday.

Chelsea's dominance in the first leg of the Champions League semi with Real Madrid could not be turned into a victory in the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano.

In part it was down to a huge miss from Werner with just nine minutes on the clock. From just four yards out the German hit his shot at former Blues number one Courtois, who saved with his legs.

The miss led Thiago Silva's wife to rant about how the former RB Leipzig striker, saying "Every team I go to there is a striker who keeps missing goals," leading us to question which strikers she hated at PSG and AC Milan.

Werner's miss was such a big moment that even Giroud and Courtois were discussing it in the tunnel at half time, with the Belgian keeper shrugging off any compliments by saying "All I did was put my foot out like this," according to RMC.

According to the French paper, the exchange ended with the former Arsenal striker exclaiming, 'Incredible,' to his former teammate.

Perhaps instead of blaming Werner for missing the chance, Giroud is going with the thought process that it was down to a good save by his former colleague.

Although considering the Germany striker's form this season, it's fair to say that he's at least partially to blame.

Speaking after the match, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel spoke about Werner's performance, saying, "He missed a big one at West Ham and now he's missed a big one here, that does not help.

"But it doesn't help crying about it or regretting it all the time.

"There are millions of people who have harder things to deal with than chances that you miss. So the good thing about sport is that no one cares tomorrow, today we were sad and angry in the moment - this is normal.

"He is sad, he is angry and disappointed. Tomorrow he has a free day and the next day he must put his chin up. He's a top guy, a professional guy. He works hard. He's in the positions. He will not stop believing. Everyone accepts the situation like it is. With strikers, if you score the next game, nobody speaks."

Chelsea didn't have too long to think about the the 25-year-old's miss, with Christian Pulisic putting the Blues ahead just a few minutes later.

Karim Benzema equalised just before the half hour mark and, despite the Premier League side being the better team on the night, it remained level from there.

Tuchel will be hoping for a similar performance from his team when Real travel to Stamford Bridge for the second leg next week.

His side only need a 0-0 draw to make just their third Champions League final, and first since winning the competition in 2012, and he could face his former side PSG just a year after taking the French champions to the final.
