The Scenes At Galatasaray's Open Training Are Like Nothing Else

The Scenes At Galatasaray's Open Training Are Like Nothing Else

The Turkish Super Lig side were getting ready for their fierce derby with Fenerbahce on Saturday afternoon.

There are footballing rivalries and then there are footballing rivalries that mean fans are more raucous at a training session than most fans get during a game and Galatasaray and Fenerbahce is definitely the latter.

Roy Keane would certainly never claim that Galatasaray fans were a bunch of prawn sandwich eaters. While football in England can often feel sterile even in our fiercest of rivalries the same can't be said of Turkish football.

The Istanbul clubs don't get along too well and like to make a noise at the best of times but right now the Super Lig is one of the most competitive leagues in the top tier of European football.

Galatasaray are three points clear of both Besiktas and Istanbul Basaksehir whilst fellow Istanbul side Fenerbahce sit just three points behind that paid, it's all very tight.

It could get even tighter on Saturday afternoon when Galatasaray play host to 'Fener.' Ahead of the game they held an open training session at the Turk Telekom Stadium and the fans didn't disappoint, lighting up the sky with their flares and making a lot of noise, incredible scenes for a training session:

The club captioned one of their posts on Twitter, "They call it The Hell. We call it heaven. Heaven of the yellow and red." and Manchester United fans will find the sentiment very reminiscent of their infamous Champions League match in Turkey in 1993.

On that visit United arrived at the airport with fans holding a banner exclaiming 'Welcome to Hell,' unnerving stuff to say the least.

Quite amazing scenes, and that was just training. Imagine what it will be like come 4pm, English time, when the match between the two fierce rivals is under way.
