Robert Lewandowski Tipped To Join Cristiano Ronaldo At Man United As Club Lack 'True Centre-Forward'

Robert Lewandowski Tipped To Join Cristiano Ronaldo At Man United As Club Lack 'True Centre-Forward'

Fabio Capello has insisted Man United lack a "true centre-forward" and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski could help fill that void.

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski has been tipped to make a sensational move to Manchester United.

That is according to former England manager Fabio Capello, who believes Lewandowski would be the perfect fit for the Red Devils.

Lewandowski, 33, is under contract with Bayern until 2023 and remains a crucial first-team player for the defending champions of Germany.

The Polish striker has been in sensational goalscoring form for club and country and scored a staggering 69 times in 2021 alone.

Lewandowski’s predatory finishing earned him the Diego Maradona Award and TikTok Fans’ Player of the Year at the 2021 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Monday.

According to Il Posticipo, Capello was asked by Sky Sports who should win the Men’s Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards.

“I hope Lewandowski wins,” he responded.

“I'm a [Lionel] Messi fan but I would not have voted him. I think the Pole deserves the award.

“I think he is still the best striker even if Neymar, [Erling] Haaland and [Kylian] Mbappe will be his competitors in the future.”

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe took home the main award of the night ahead of Capello’s preferred choice.

Lewandowski has been linked with both Manchester City and Real Madrid in recent weeks amid Bayern eyeing up a potential move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland next summer.

The Poland captain has shown little sign of slowing down, with Lewandowski scoring an impressive 30 times in 25 appearances.

And Lewandowski fell short of the 2021 Ballon d'Or to PSG superstar Lionel Messi, who snapped up France Football’s sought-after prize at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris last month.

Capello believes the former Dortmund striker could leave Bayern and insisted that United lack a “true centre-forward,” with Cristiano Ronaldo occupying that position.

The 75-year-old Italian continued: “Lewa could leave Bayern. I know there are rumours, I would see him do well everywhere, but in the Premier League there is a team that lacks a true centre-forward and it is Manchester United which now uses Cristiano Ronaldo in that position.”

Ronaldo made his stunning return to United back in the summer and has scored 13 times in 19 appearances for the Red Devils.

The 36-year-old Portuguese forward has been the preferred striking option under both former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
