Roberto Firmino equalises for Liverpool against Rangers, he's carrying the club right now

Roberto Firmino equalises for Liverpool against Rangers, he's carrying the club right now

Firmino scored his seventh goal of the season at Ibrox.

Roberto Firmino scored yet another crucial goal for Liverpool to drag his side level against Rangers in the Champions League.

Liverpool claimed a 2-0 win over the Scottish club at Anfield last week but the reverse fixture in Glasgow was always likely to be a much sterner test of Jurgen Klopp's struggling side.

In a hostile atmosphere at Ibrox, Rangers started the stronger of the two teams and took the lead after 17 minutes when former Burnley striker Scott Arfield beat Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson with a well-placed finish.

His goal cranked up the volume inside the stadium as the Scottish Premiership side pushed hard for a second.

But the home fans fell silent on 24 minutes when Firmino equalised for Liverpool with a near-post header from a corner.

It was the Brazilian's first goal in the Champions League this season but his seventh in all competitions.

Firmino also scored in Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Arsenal, while he also grabbed a brace in the 3-3 draw with Brighton at Anfield earlier this month.

Liverpool supporters on social media praised Firmino for his vital contributions in a team badly struggling for confidence.

"Bobby Firmino has literally carried us this season," posted one fan on Twitter.

Another added: "Thank God Firmino exists."

"Roberto Firmino is keeping this club alive," added another.

While a fourth wrote: "One of the very few shining lights from this season is Bobby Firmino."

Rangers responded well to Firmino's goal and had several chances to score again before half-time.

Antonio Colak had a brilliant opportunity to find an unmarked Ryan Kent in the box but the Croatian badly overhit his cross to the former Liverpool man.

Ibrahima Konate then made a vital block to prevent Arfield from scoring a second for the home side, as Liverpool made it to the break without conceding again.
