Brentford announce signing of Romeo Beckham, 20, from Inter Miami

The Premier League side have confirmed the signing of Romeo Beckham on a short-term deal.

Brentford have confirmed the signing of Romeo Beckham on a six-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old winger has been training with the Premier League club's youth team for a number of months after making an impressive start to life at Inter Miami – the MLS franchise co-owned by his father, David.

He made his professional debut for their reserve team in September 2021 alongside Harvey Neville, and has since excelled for the MLS Next Pro side, notching 10 assists and two goals in the league's inaugural season.

After a bright start to his professional career, Premier League side Brentford have now decided to take a punt on the youngster.

In a statement on their website, the club said: "Brentford are delighted to announce the signing of Romeo Beckham from Inter Miami CF on loan until the end of the 2022/23 season.

"The 20-year-old will join Neil MacFarlane’s B team for the rest of the campaign to continue his development as he makes the temporary switch from the MLS club. The move is subject to international clearance."

The club confirmed that Beckham, who spent time with Arsenal’s academy up until 2014, has been training with the young Bees on a regular basis at Jersey Road.

Brentford B head coach MacFarlane praised Beckham for his application in training.

“We’ve been absolutely delighted with Romeo since he arrived with us," he told the club's website.

"He came to us from Inter Miami with the aim of working with us during their close season. Romeo has applied himself unbelievably well, he’s really bought into the culture and the group which he has become a big part of.

“I love his standards and the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch.

"He’s been able to get fitter and fitter during his time with us and it leaves him in a good place to now step forward having joined us on loan."

MacFarlane added: "He is very technical, and he is somebody who can shift the ball quickly and cross.

"He is also a really good finisher and he has the ability to play a number of positions for us, which is also pleasing.

"I think it’s testament to us as a club, and as a B team, that Inter Miami have asked us to work with him and trust in us to continue working with him to help him with his development.”

Beckham reacted to completing his loan move to Brentford on his Instagram page. "An exciting start to the year," he said. "Looking forward to the challenge."

Back in July last year, during a league clash against Orlando City II, Romeo stepped up from 25 yards when Miami II were awarded a free kick.

He proceeded to dip the ball over the wall and into the bottom right corner – a strike his father would have been proud of.

"I think we've seen this before," the commentator said after Beckham scored his first goal of the season.
