Messi, who arrived in the French capital on a free transfer last summer, was repeatedly booed when he touched the ball in PSG’s 3-0 win over Bordeaux at the Parc des Princes.
And the 34-year-old Argentine ace’s teammate Neymar was met with the same hostile reception, despite doubling PSG’s lead in the second half of the Ligue 1 clash.
Messi and Neymar, 30, received their unfriendly reaction from PSG fans after the Parisian-based club were dumped out of the Champions League round of 16.
Karim Benzema produced a magnificent second-half hat-trick to seal a 3-1 win for Los Blancos in the second-leg tie at the Santiago Bernabeu last week.
Ronaldinho, who spent two seasons at PSG before signing for Barcelona in 2003, suggested that the club’s supporters were “sad” after PSG’s Champions League exit.
Speaking to Fox Sports (via Get French Football News), he said: “It’s one of those moments when the fans were sad because they have a big team with all these great players.”
Messi’s goalscoring form has repeatedly been questioned this season after scoring only twice in 18 Ligue 1 appearances.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who scored five times in seven Champions League appearances for PSG, has notched up 11 assists in France’s top-flight league.
Messi, who is under contract with PSG until 2023, has been heavily linked with a return to former club Barcelona in the summer.
Speaking on his ex-Barcelona teammate, Ronaldinho insisted that it is “difficult to question Messi” after what the PSG superstar has achieved in his remarkable career.
The 41-year-old Brazilian explained: “Messi is not in a great moment right now, but for me, it is difficult to question Messi after everything he has done for football.
“I am sure that he will soon win titles again and be considered the best in the world, which for he hasn’t stopped being me.”
