Ryan Reynolds recalls moment he told Blake Lively he had bought Wrexham

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover of Wrexham in February 2021 and could soon be owners of a League Two club.

Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney made the shock decision to buy fifth tier Welsh outfit Wrexham in February 2021 and the former's other half, Blake Lively, wasn't too fond of the move at first.

The duo, who had not even met one another in real life, took full control of the Dragons with a £2 million investment and have since pumped in another £10 million in a bid to get the club back into the big-time.

The enthralling 3-2 win over Notts County on Easter Monday means Wrexham are three points clear of their National League title rivals and look good value to be playing League Two football next term.

With the Disney+ 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary as well as a TikTok sponsorship and 404% turnover increase, it's proved to be a fairly shrewd decision thus far.

But Lively, was not impressed when Reynolds told her the "really bad news" that he had bought Wrexham and her reaction was "not good".

Reynolds shared the tale when on Jimmy Kimmel Live as part of McElhenney's stint as guest host, saying: “I remember after you reached out with this absolutely insane idea and I remember seeing Blake, saying, ‘I have bad news and I have really bad news. The bad news is I slipped into someone’s DMs again.

"The really bad news is that I might have bought half of a fifth-tier national football league in Wales,’"

Asked how Lively responded, Reynolds added: "Not good, Rob. Not great. We’re still working through that one.”

Gossip Girl star Lively appears to have warmed to the idea, however and recently attended a Wrexham game - even joking that a fan's girlfriend should "dump him" in a hilarious viral video.

The wife and husband and their four kids could well be spending more time in Wrexham as Reynolds has reportedly bought a new £1.5 million home in the tiny village of Marford, which is home to just 2,500 people.
