Seamus Coleman Given Huge Plaudit By Frank Lampard After Everton Avoided Relegation

Frank Lampard claimed that Seamus Coleman was one of the 'best people' he'd ever met, after the Everton captain helped keep the club in the Premier League.

It was an emotional night at Goodison Park on Thursday night, as the Toffees put a very tough season behind them to confirm their survival in the top tier.

At one point all looked lost, as they trailed 2-0 to Crystal Palace at half time and Burnley were leading Aston Villa, and relegation stared them in the face.

However, for the first time in their Premier League history, the Toffees came back to win a game they were losing 3-2 at half time, to set off incredible scenes inside the stadium, that were unfortunately marred by one fan harassing Patrick Vieira.

Things were understandably emotional for Everton and after the match Lampard gave an emotional speech, praising club captain Coleman.

"This fella is, to say in front of everyone, one of the best people I have ever met as a man and as a player," the former Chelsea manager said in a video that captured scenes from the changing room.

The 33-year-old has started 30 games this season and has had to keep the squad together in what has been an incredibly difficult period.

Coleman and the players really had to show an huge amount of character to stay up, especially on Thursday when two goals down after 45 minutes.

Lampard was clearly feeling very emotional about keeping the team up and showed how much the club captain's efforts had been appreciated.

There was some light humoured mocking of the heartfelt moment though, as it was a bit reminiscent of telling your mates you love them on a night out.

There was a lot of hand-wringing in general about the amount that Everton were celebrating avoiding the drop, with plenty of rival fans wanting to mock them.

But the win against Palace was huge and there was definitely a reason for their celebrations, and if anything they'd have been hugely relieved to stay in the top tier.

Speaking to Sky Sports about staying up, after the win, Lampard said, "What we've just seen, it's Premier League safety, it's not Champions League, but what it means to the club and the circumstances they were given in.

"The character of this club, the fans, players, just got us through. The spirit of the club was immense.

"There are a lot of people who work so hard for that, the players, the board, the fans, my staff.

"It's a huge night for Everton and now we want to take that forward."
