Sebastian Vettel scores banger in charity football match, fans think football is his calling

Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel has proven he’s as good with his feet as he is on the road, scoring a scorcher in a charity football match. 

The German driver took part in the ‘Champions for Charity’ game in Frankfurt on Wednesday night (August 25) scoring twice in a star-studded match-up.

The game pitted Haas driver Mick Schumacher as captain representing the Keep Fighting Foundation against NBA icon Dirk Nowitzki’s team representing his own charity.

The event itself has been going on for a few years now honouring Mick’s legendary father Michael Schumacher following his skiing accident in 2013 that left him with a severe head injury.

This year’s edition featured some of the best German athletes in the world with the likes of Mats Hummels, Kevin Trapp, Lukas Podolski and Sami Khedira on the football front. 

Meanwhile, McLaren legends David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen also appeared, as well as beach volleyball player Karla Borger and handball player Christian Schwartzer.

However, it was the four-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel who stole the show with a display that would leave most top-level scouts impressed.

Receiving the ball and cutting in from the left wing like Eden Hazard in his prime, the long-haired F1 driver proceeded to let loose a deft shot that nutmegged the defender and wrong-footed the keeper into the bottom corner.

Vettel recently announced that he has plans to retire from Formula One at the end of the 2022 season so for all we know he could be available for some suitors on the football front. 

Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp couldn’t help but have a smile on his face as the ball went into the net.

Perhaps Manchester United will be glad the German shot-stopper turned down their advances. 

It was the best goal of a 21-goal thriller.

Yes, 21 goals.

The game finished 11-10 to Mick Schumacher’s team, but despite the scoreline, it was Vettel’s cheeky goal that had fans talking over on Reddit. 

One fan commented: “Guy retired so he can finally become a footballer.”

Another said: “Vettel > Mbappe.”

Whilst one Reddit thinks they found a certain London side’s next big signing, saying: “Chelsea should sign him.”

Expect the Blues to pay upwards of £50 million (AU$85m) for the German.
