Sergio Aguero Has Given An Interesting Answer In The Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard And Frank Lampard Debate
| Last updated
Sergio Aguero believes Frank Lampard was a better player than fellow midfielders Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes.
Former England teammates Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes were compared all the way through their careers.
The trio never managed to make it click for the Three Lions but were important to Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United respectively.
Aguero was asked which player he prefers in a recent Twitter Q&A and he said Lampard immediately.
The former Manchester City striker played with Lampard for a season at the Etihad before he left the Premier League for New York City FC.
Despite their short time playing together, Lampard actually regards Aguero as one of his greatest teammates.
He told Planet Football: "I was not at Man City for long, but straight away you could see that this guy [Aguero] was world-class. The goals he scored on the training pitch every day were frightening and he took that on to the field.
"You only need to look at his record since he came to City to appreciate what a class act he is and he was great to play with."
Could it be former teammate bias? Perhaps, but there's no denying Lampard was a world class player.
He won three Premier League titles and the Champions League with Chelsea and also became the club's record top goalscorer.
Meanwhile, Scholes won 11 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues across two stints with United.
Scholes retired in 2011 but returned the following year with Sir Alex Ferguson short in midfield.
Gerrard never won the Premier League with Liverpool but inspired them to Champions League glory in 2005 while captain.
All three players had a different skillset so a straight-up comparison is perhaps unfair, and that's something Scholes was quick to flag up during an appearance on BBC Radio Five Live.
"Stevie G and Frank, of course," the 47-year-old told explained.
"I'm sick to death of hearing about this, to be honest. It doesn't really matter. People can have their own opinions.
"Them two were amazing, amazing players. But very different players."
