Sergio Aguero savages Zlatan Ibrahimovic after his comments about Argentina players

Sergio Aguero savages Zlatan Ibrahimovic after his comments about Argentina players

Sergio Aguero hit back after Zlatan Ibrahimovic was critical of how Argentina players celebrated their World Cup win over France.

Sergio Aguero ripped into Zlatan Ibrahimovic after he criticised Argentina's World Cup celebrations.

Lionel Scaloni's side beat France on penalties after a pulsating 3-3 draw in 120 minutes of action, with Gonzalo Montiel scoring the decisive penalty to secure a third World Cup win.

It meant Lionel Messi finally got to lift the most precious prize in football, completing his trophy collection after a stunning tournament in Qatar.

Ibrahimovic, who played with Messi at Barcelona, was "sure" that he and Argentina would win the World Cup as he is "considered the best player in history".

The AC Milan star also praised hat-trick hero Kylian Mbappe but caused a stir when he said La Albiceleste players would not win anything else because he deemed their celebrations to be over the top.

"But I feel sorry for Mbappe, because if you score four goals in the final (including penalty shoot-out) and don't win the World Cup, that is very sad," Ibrahimovic told France Inter.

"But he will win another World Cup and he has already won one, so I'm not worried about Mbappe.

"I'm worried about the other players of Argentina because they will not win anything else. Messi has won everything and he will be remembered. But the rest, that behaved badly, we can't respect that.

'"This is coming from me as a professional football player at a high level. For me, it's a sign that they will win one time and will not win any more, because you don't win like that."

Ibrahimovic appeared to be referring to the behaviour of Emiliano Martinez, who performed a lewd gesture aimed at France fans when he collected his Golden Glove award on the podium.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper also mocked Mbappe by holding a "minute silence" for him and carrying a doll with his face on during the trophy parade in Buenos Aires.

But Aguero, who was very much involved in the celebrations despite being retired, hit back at the Swede.

On his Twitch stream, the Manchester City legend said: "It seems to me that it’s very rude to say that we are not going to win anymore. I think that before worrying about Argentina, you could worry about your country, about your players, who are not even in the last World Cups.”

Ibrahimovic watched the final from the stands at the Lusail Stadium alongside former teammate Paul Pogba and France president Emmanuel Macron.
