Simon Jordan brutally tells Newcastle fans they are competing for a trophy 'nobody really cares about'

Simon Jordan told Newcastle fans that Premier League clubs are looking at the League Cup and "not wanting to play in it anymore."

Simon Jordan has ruthlessly pulled no punches towards Newcastle fans after the Magpies reached the final of a cup competition that “no-one really cares about.”

Joelinton scored the second-half winner in the first leg of Newcastle’s semi-final League Cup clash against 10-men Southampton at the St Mary’s.

Eddie Howe’s men then ensured their place in the League Cup final with a 2-1 victory over Southampton in the return leg at St James’ Park.

Newcastle will now travel to Wembley on 26th February for the League Cup final against Manchester United, who defeated Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals.

Magpies boss Howe has been praised for Newcastle’s stunning run of form this season, with the Premier League club challenging for a top-four finish.

Howe, who succeeded Steve Bruce at Newcastle in 2021, is now within touching distance of his first major piece of silverware with the Magpies.

However, Jordan hit out at Newcastle supporters for getting carried away at the prospect of winning the “fourth cup” that not many teams put an emphasis on.

“This is the fourth cup,” he told talkSPORT.

“This is the cup that no-one really cares about. Premier League clubs are looking at the EFL Cup and not wanting to play in it anymore [and] it has been talked about being dropped.

“The other side of the argument is: it’s a cup final. It’s a major cup. It’s a cup that I’ve advocated keeping. I’m giving you both sides of the argument. I’m suggesting that it’s the cup most people value the least.

“If you talk to people like John Hall, with his view on things, he probably doesn’t think that the Carabao Cup is particularly valuable.

“Notwithstanding that, if you look at it and say, ‘Newcastle have got to a cup final.’

“If they win this, it’s a remarkable achievement because you know we were talking about a club that was so dysfunctional with its owner [Mike Ashley].”
