"Long may it continue."

Sir Alex Ferguson has been mocked by a former player following Manchester United's thrashing by Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola's rampant team led 4-0 at the break thanks to goals from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

After Foden's second strike, the camera panned to a distraught-looking Ferguson, who was watching on from the stands.

And David Speedie, who played under the legendary manager at Scotland, took to social media to taunt the 80-year-old.

On Twitter, he wrote: "It’s how I felt when he left me out of the 86 World Cup squad.

"Long may it continue."

Man United replied with three goals in the second-half, but still lost 6-3 as their league win streak comes to an end.

Speaking after the game, Erik ten Hag slammed his team for showing a lack of belief in their defeat to Man City.

"If you don't fight - which we didn't - you are going to have a problem against Manchester City," he exclaimed.

"This is different to Brentford, that day we didn't run. Today we wanted to run but there was a lack of belief.

"I don't think you can compare to Brentford. This is definitely like against Brentford, [in being] mental, but different. Today we wanted to run, but we didn't follow the principles and rules but once again, it was a lack of belief."

He added: "I will show the team tomorrow we could have been on the front foot. In the first goal, we won the ball and could have created a chance and gave it away. That is unacceptable."
