Sky Sports slammed for 'disrespectful' and 'appalling' coverage of Seamus Coleman injury

Sky Sports have been heavily criticised for the way they covered Seamus Coleman's horrific looking injury, during Everton's draw with Leicester City.

It was very much a must not lose game for both Everton and Leicester on Monday night, as both clubs attempt to avoid dropping out of the Premier League.

Certainly the two sides provided plenty of entertainment, helped by how average they both are, in a 2-2 draw that helped no one really.

Jordan Pickford's save from James Maddison's penalty was the highlight of the game, with the goalkeeper criticised for his over the top celebration.

Pickford managed to 'guess' that Maddison would go down the middle with his spot kick, thanks to a water bottle that apparently gave him an 'unfair advantage.'

Just before the penalty though, there a really dark moment to the game, with Coleman having to be stretchered off after a collision with Boubakary Soumare.

It didn't look good at all for the 34-year-old, with his knee twisting in a way it probably shouldn't and many fearing the worst for the end of his career.

Sky appeared to break the usual protocol of showing nasty injuries on replay, and instead had it play a few times, which led to criticism from talkSPORT's Jason Cundy.

"I was absolutely and utterly appalled at whoever the director was at Sky showing constant replays of that injury," the former Chelsea player, who retired with a knee injury, said.

"Have some respect for someone’s career, he has been an unbelievable servant to Everton."

Speaking about his own experience, the 53-year-old added, "Talking as someone that had their career ended through a knee injury, nothing like that, it was horrendous and someone somewhere has got to have the know-how not to show different replays from different angles.

"We don’t want to see that.

"I found it incredibly upsetting to watch that, to watch a stalwart of English football and one of the legends of Everton Football Club to be put through the humiliation of having that knee injury, that challenge…

"Every time it seems to get worse. They’ve got to have some respect for that player. It was terrible.

"I doubt I’ll be the only person that says this, shocking decision from Sky."

Coleman is considered one of the best pieces of transfer business in the Premier League era, having joined the Toffees for just £60,000 in 2009.

He has gone on to play over 400 games for the Merseyside club, and also made 68 appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team.

With Everton still one point from safety, it could have been the former Sligo Rovers' stars final game in the Premier League.
