Son Heung-min has become a year younger following the rule change in South Korea.

Son Heung-min has bizarrely become one year YOUNGER after South Korea scrapped their unusual policy of counting ages.

The original method in South Korea would include a babies' gestation period, with newborns considered a year old at birth.

It was put into effect on Wednesday after the law was passed in December following strong campaigning from newly elected South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol.

The Tottenham star will now be considered as a 30-year-old in his homeland - as he is in the rest of the world.

He turns 31 next week, with his birthday on July 8.

In the UK, Son has always been viewed by the international method and will remain as a 30-year-old.

The changes won't effect Spurs' registration for the player, with the club only needing to provide an accurate date of birth as opposed to an age.

Napoli's Kim Min-jae, who is wanted by Bayern Munich, Real Mallorca Lee Kang-in and Celtic's Oh Hyeon-gyu have also been effected by the changes.

By Son's high standards, he endured an underwhelming campaign last season as he scored just 10 goals in the Premier League.

He enjoyed the best season of his career in the 2021/22 term as he bagged an impressive 23 league goals, winning the Premier League Golden Boot award.

Despite his fairly low-scoring 2022/23 campaign, Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad expressed an interest in snapping him up this summer.

But the forward ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia, insisting 'money doesn't matter to me'.

He said: "I have many things to do in the Premier League.

"Money doesn't matter to me now, and the pride of playing football, to play in my favourite league is important."
