Richarlison gives heartbreaking interview after injury puts World Cup dream in doubt

Richarlison gives heartbreaking interview after injury puts World Cup dream in doubt

The Brazilian was in action for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison was visibly emotional during his post-match interview as an injury puts his dream of going to the World Cup in doubt.

The Brazilian started for Antonio Conte’s side in Saturday evening’s Premier League clash against Everton.

However, with the game at 0-0 in the 50th minute, Richarlison went down after suffering pain in his calf. He was unable to continue and was replaced by fellow summer signing, Yves Bissouma.

Luckily for Spurs, they managed to win the game 2-0 after goals from Harry Kane and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg.

According to ESPN Brasil journalist Joao Castelo Branco, Richarlison was described as ‘inconsolable’ and needed crutches when leaving the stadium.

The 25-year-old was visibly emotional during his post-match interview.

Richarlison told ESPN Brasil: “It's kind of hard to say because it's so close to realising my dream [playing at the World Cup]. I've already suffered an injury similar to this, I hope it can heal as soon as possible. or less. I was stopped about two months at Everton.

“I know it's hard to talk right now, but let's see, I'll recover. Monday. I have tests to do, but even walking hurts. Let's wait.

“It's all so close, it's about a month to go, and we've been getting ready, working every day so that nothing serious can happen. Unfortunately, today I had this calf injury, but now it's just a matter of waiting, doing the treatment every day so that I can recover as soon as possible.”

Spurs boss Conte said after the match: “Yeah for sure he's out against Manchester United, for sure. He felt something in his calf and he won't be available for that game. I don't know but I think he needs a bit of time to recover.

“It's a pity because we are talking about a player that gives us a lot of quality but at the same time also is strong and he improves our intensity.”

Although it is a big blow if Brazil were to lose Richarlison, but they should have no problems as the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino have been in fine form for their respective clubs.

Brazil are the bookies’ favourites to lift the trophy in Qatar, they have been placed in Group G alongside Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon.
