Steven Gerrard was 'on another planet' to Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard

Steven Gerrard was 'on another planet' to Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard

The former Liverpool captain is the greatest midfielder in Premier League history, according to Jamie O'Hara.

Steven Gerrard was "on another planet" to Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard and remains the greatest midfielder in Premier League history despite Kevin De Bruyne's impressive form, according to talkSPORT pundit Jamie O'Hara.

Gerrard spent the entirety of his Premier League career with his boyhood club Liverpool, captaining the side for more than a decade.

While he famously won the Champions League in 2005 as well two FA Cups, three League Cups and the UEFA Cup once, Gerrard never won the Premier League with Liverpool – narrowly missing out in the 2013-14 season under Brendan Rodgers.

Nevertheless, Gerrard should still be viewed as the greatest Premier League midfielder ahead of the likes of Manchester United icon Scholes and Chelsea legend Lampard, according to former Tottenham and Wolves player O'Hara.

Responding to his talkSPORT co-presenter Jason Cundy's suggestion that Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne could be viewed as the greatest midfielder to grace English football's top flight, O'Hara said: "Ridiculous.

"There have been so many amazing players in the Premier League. You're just thinking [that] because you're seeing him now.

"You're not looking back on the great midfielders that have been in the Premier League."

O'Hara added: "Gerrard goes down for me as the best midfielder the Premier League has ever seen. I played against Scholes, I played against Gerrard, I played against Lampard.

"For me, Gerrard was on another planet to any other player that I walked on a football pitch with. He was unbelievable, he was a machine.

"I walked off the pitch when I played against him and was like, 'Oh my word, I've come up against a player that I couldn't get near in any single form of the game'.

"Heading, crossing, passing, strength, decision-making, awareness, pace, ability – he had everything.

"He carried the club on his back for how many years? De Bruyne is an amazing player. He will go down as one of the greats in the Premier League, but not the greatest.

"The greatest midfielder the Premier League has ever seen is Steven Gerrard. Without a shadow of a doubt."
