The 'True' Premier League Team Of The Season Includes No Virgil van Dijk

This is controversial.

The 'true' Premier League team of the season has been revealed and there's a few shock calls - including no Virgil van Dijk at the back.

Manchester City were crowned champions on Sunday afternoon to bring another enthralling campaign to a close.

Pep Guardiola's side edged it over Liverpool by one point and it'll come as no surprise they dominate SofaScore's best XI based on statistics.

Five Liverpool players make it in but interestingly, Joel Matip is ahead of Virgil van Dijk in the pecking order.

Chelsea veteran Thiago Silva is the only defender in it who isn't from Liverpool.

City's two come in midfield with Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne.

It'll come as no surprise that Golden Boot co-winner Mohamed Salah is in attack, as is Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min, who he shared the award with.

You can check out the entire team below:

Goalkeeper: Alisson (Liverpool) -7.11

Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 7.65

Centre-back: Joel Matip (Liverpool) - 7.35

Centre-back: Thiago Silva (Chelsea) - 7.32

Kevin De Bruyne was named Player of the Season and he also had the highest ranking in SofaScore's team.

He scored 15 goals in the league, which is the highest tally of his career so far and registered eight assists.

"To win this award for a second time is an achievement that I am really proud of," the Belgium international said.

"There is so much quality in the Premier League and it is a pleasure to be nominated with so many other great players who have had incredible seasons for their clubs.

"I think my performances this season have been good and I am happy that I have been able to contribute with goals and assists throughout the season.

"Thank you to all of the staff, coaches and especially my teammates because without them this wouldn’t be possible."
