Timo Werner has just scored from 30 yards out, 36 minutes into second RB Leipzig debut

Werner sealed a permanent return to Leipzig from Chelsea earlier this week.

Timo Werner has scored from 30 yards out on his second RB Leipzig debut this afternoon and fans are delighted for him.

The Germany forward sealed a permanent transfer to Leipzig earlier this week, who he left for Chelsea in a £47.5 million transfer back in 2020.

Werner never settled at Stamford Bridge and decided it was time to return to the Bundesliga.

Leipzig manager Domenico Tedesco threw him straight into the starting XI for Saturday's clash with Koln and Werner repaid that faith immediately.

The 26-year-old had the ball popped to him at pace and took one touch, before deciding to test goalkeeper Marvin Schwabe from distance.

Werner let rip with a curling effort that Schwabe found too hot to handle and he let it slip under his arms and into the net.

It put Leipzig 1-0 up and Werner wheeled away in celebration, knowing he'd got off to the best possible start.

Koln have since equalised through Florian Dietz and Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai was sent off just before halftime.

Despite that, supporters have reacted to Werner's strike and they're glad to see him enjoying his football again.

One person said: "Werner always deserved more backing."

Another put: "Back to doing what he does best."

While a third tweeted: "All he needed to do was get away from Chelsea."

Werner penned a message to Chelsea fans after confirming his departure, thanking them for their support.

"Dear Blues, Today marks the end of my journey with Chelsea FC," he penned on social media. "I am incredibly grateful for the time I spent at this special club.

"At this point I would like to express my appreciation for my teammates, the coaches & staff, and especially for you, the special supporters of Chelsea Football Club.

"I felt so much love and support throughout the last two years and I will never forget how you guys stood behind me in good and challenging times!

"We lifted trophies like the Champions League together and I will always remember the song you wrote and chanted for me. I'm already looking forward to hopefully playing at Stamford Bridge again one day!

"See you soon, Timo."
