Todd Boehly stormed into the Chelsea dressing room and called them all "embarrassing"

Todd Boehly stormed into the Chelsea dressing room and called them all "embarrassing"

The Chelsea owner wasn't happy following the defeat.

Todd Boehly labelled Chelsea's season as "embarrassing" as the American owner addressed the squad following their Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Boehly - who purchased the Premier League club from Roman Abramovich ahead of the 2022/23 campaign - has been a vocal figure since arriving in London, as he looks to make his mark on the two-time European champions.

But despite investing over $600 million on players since his arrival, things haven't gone to plan in West London so far this season.

Boehly's tenure has already seen three managers take to the home dugout at Stamford Bridge, with interim manager Frank Lampard returning to the fold after Graham Potter's six-month spell in charge of the club post-Thomas Tuchel came to an end earlier this month.

But despite the hefty investments and constant changes at the helm, nothing seems to be working for Chelsea this season, who suffered their 12th defeat of the campaign last time out, as Brighton came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.

Any hope of success this season lingers on Tuesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid, who travel to West London with a two-goal advantage after their 2-0 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu last week.

Boehly has looked to take matters into his own hands, as he entered the Chelsea dressing room following their defeat to Brighton to deliver a pre-match pep talk to his squad, with whom he expressed his disappointment at their season so far.

As reported by Matthew Law of the Telegraph, Boehly labelled his players as "embarrassing" as they continued their plunge down the Premier League table, but stressed that they have a good chance at keeping their season alive with a victory on Tuesday night.

The American owner is said to have told the squad that they have fallen short of expectations this season, citing his sizeable investment as a reason to expect greater success on the pitch.

Boehly's trip to the dressing room came following some unsavoury scenes inside Stamford Bridge, as fans situated above the American's box made their feelings known.

Chelsea's owner hasn't held back with his criticism of his side since his arrival, having been recorded voicing his frustrations following their 2-2 draw with Everton in March.
