Real Madrid star Toni Kroos aimed a sly dig at Bundesliga side Schalke after Ed Sheeran hosted a concert at the club’s home ground.
The German midfielder spoke about Schalke in his own podcast, citing the club’s recent misfortunes.
Schalke regained their top flight status this year after being relegated the season before in the worst possible circumstances.

They went on a 30 game winless run under multiple managers including ex Huddersfield manager David Wagner and former Spurs coach Christian Gross.
However, in the back end of last season, they found some unexpected good form that propelled the club back into the Bundesliga.
Schalke’s home ground, the Veltins Arena has been used to host music concerts during the off season and recently, British mega star Ed Sheeran played at the ground. Which led to Kroos’ sly dig towards the club.
He said on his podcast: “Ed Sheeran did something that I have rarely seen: that people went home happy from the stadium after an event at Schalke.”
The comment did not go down well as Schalke hit back at Kroos.

Schalke posted on Twitter: “At least we can give cool interviews after the final whistle.”
Schalke’s response to Kroos included an iconic interview of their own. Striker Simon Terodde scored a stoppage time winner against Sandhausen, a win that put his side inches away from promotion which sparked huge celebrations.
The 34-year-old then had to do a post match interview but couldn’t get his words out after losing his voice during the wild celebrations.
This come back by the club was in reference to Kroos’ snappy interview after Madrid’s 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final.

Kroos was asked if he was surprised his team were put under so much pressure during the match, which irked the midfielder.
He replied: “You had 90 minutes to think about sensible questions. And then you ask me two s****y questions. That’s crazy.”
“It’s not surprising that you get into trouble against Liverpool. What is that a question? We’re not playing a group game somewhere, we’re playing the Champions League final.”
“It’s really bad. Really bad, really. First you ask three negative questions. You already know that you come from Germany.”

The World Cup winner ended up walking off midway through the interview.
