Robert Lewandowski Voted As The Unofficial 'Ballon d'Or' Winner

Robert Lewandowski has been named as the Best Player in the World in 2020, after the Ballon d'Or was cancelled last year.

It looked certain that Lewandowski would be the man to walk away with the Ballon d'Or title in 2020, after helping Bayern to an incredible treble.

The Polish striker scored an impressive 55 goals in 47 appearance in all competitions during the interrupted season, winning the Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.

France Football, who run the Ballon d'Or, decided that the break in the middle of the season meant it was 'unfair' to run the award last year, despite most competitions being able to go ahead.

However Lewandowski has now been named the World Player of the Year by FourFourTwo magazine, who did their own version of the Ballon d'Or.

The outlet got 128 journalists from 102 countries to vote on their player of the year from a 30 man shortlist, with the former Borussia Dortmund striker coming out on top.

It says everything that Lewa ended up with 561 points in the voting whilst the next best, Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne earned just 120 points!

Sadio Mane helped Liverpool win their first Premier League title and rounds off the top three, meaning Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo miss out.

The two men were both knocked out of the Champions League earlier than usual and outside of Ronaldo's Serie A title win, Juventus' ninth in-a-row, they failed to win much silverware at all.
