Chelsea could ease FFP worries with clever transfer of player with 13 Premier League minutes

Chelsea could ease FFP worries with clever transfer of player with 13 Premier League minutes

Chelsea have had another busy transfer window

Chelsea could ease Financial Fair Play pressures by selling a player with just 13 Premier League minutes.

So far this summer, Chelsea have again spent big as they brought in the likes of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Axel Disasi.

In three transfer windows under the stewardship of Todd Boehly, the Blues have now spent over £1 billion.

As a result, there have been questions on how Chelsea are getting away with FFP with their huge spending.

Now, they have a chance to balance the books by selling Ian Maatsen to Burnley.

The Clarets have reportedly agreed a fee of £31.5 million to sign Maatsen, which is a lot of money for a player who has only played in the Premier League for 13 minutes.

However, it has recently been claimed that the left-back is set to turn down a move to Burnley and stay at Stamford Bridge.

Earlier on in the summer, Chelsea received big transfer fees for Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic.

Speaking earlier on Friday, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke about the club’s huge spending spree.

He said: “I don't know how much the club was selling. You can talk about being surprised about that or not but we need to evolve. Football today is different - we manage different numbers.

“Twenty years ago, if we think this is going to happen, maybe nobody believes us. Today, I think it is normal this kind of money moving around. It is big business and we cannot stop. We all get the benefit. We are living on what this business produces. I am not here to give a lesson to anyone. It's about balance.”

Pochettino continued: “Chelsea is spending money but selling players. Always in that case people arrive in a club. It is normal. [Our owners] they want to develop the project and we are going to help them because we are professional, giving our vision and advice.”
