Jamie Carragher changes his mind "off camera" on Mohamed Salah situation amid Saudi £150m bid

Jamie Carragher "changed his mind" off camera when deliberating on whether Liverpool should sell Mohamed Salah, according to Gary Neville.

On Friday, transfer deadline day, it emerged that Liverpool had rejected a £150million offer for Salah from Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad.

The bid for the 31-year-old forward was for in excess of £100million, with add-ons taking it up to £150million.

Liverpool have insisted the Egyptian is not for sale.

Salah, who joined the Reds from Italian side Roma in 2017, only signed a new three-year contract last summer.

And while discussing the matter, Manchester United legend Neville claimed that Carragher changed his mind on whether Liverpool should have accepted the £150million bid.

Speaking on Sky Sports Neville said: “This man has just changed his mind off camera” when Carragher called for Al-Ittihad to up their bid to £200million.

But Carragher explained: “I want more money. I actually think, when you look at what [Harry] Kane went for, Mo Salah has got two years to go [on his contract]. For Liverpool to sell right now they are going to want more than what he’s worth.

"He’s probably around the £100million mark but why have they left it this late?"

On whether Salah wants the move to the Saudi Pro League, Carragher added: “Every player who’s involved can kill it straight away. I actually think his agent came out a few weeks ago but it’s up to Liverpool and Salah.

"For any player, if that number just keeps going up and up and up, you can’t turn that down and that’s £200million.

"I don’t think it will [happen] because it’s come so late. If it had come six weeks ago it was a toss of a coin. If that number gets too big you may have to get to January."

Liverpool would have little time to react to Salah's departure, with the transfer window closing at 11pm BST on Friday for incoming deals involving Premier League teams.

Al-Ittihad, however, will still be able to sign players, with the Saudi Pro League's transfer window set to close on 7 September.
