Pep Guardiola decides Man City's top transfer target after Champions League elimination

Manchester City were dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola has reportedly decided on Manchester City’s top target ahead of the summer transfer window.

On Wednesday night, City’s dreams of retaining the treble went up in smoke after they fell in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

After an entertaining first league encounter against Real Madrid ended 3-3, the two teams drew 1-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

During the penalty shootout, Madrid held their nerves as they came away 4-3 winners, with Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic missing the crucial spot kicks for City.

On the back of that disappointment, it has been claimed that Guardiola has already looked ahead to the summer transfer window.

As reported by The Guardian, City are preparing a big push to sign Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala this summer.

The 21-year-old has produced a string of impressive performances for the Bavarian club, resulting in interest from the likes of City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.

In 36 appearances across all competitions for Bayern this season, Musiala has 12 goals and seven assists to his name.

Bayern are set to demand a huge fee of they are to part ways with their young star, he currently has a market value of €110 million on Transfermarkt.

Prior to moving to Bavaria, Musiala played in England for the likes of Southampton and Chelsea. The midfielder also represented the Three Lions at U15, U17 and U21 levels before opting to pledge his international allegiance to Germany.

Speaking recently about Musiala’s performances, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel said: “Jamal has been decisive in games time and time again in recent weeks, he's very reliable.

“The mixture between dribbling and passing - in other words, the whole decision-making process - is very good. We'll continue to push him because he's going to be crucial for us.”

Meanwhile, former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher said on CBS Sports: “Musiala, for me, this guy is sensational. I think he’s going to be a superstar. Look what he’s doing at Champions League level, quarter-finals.

“His ability to run past people, it’s a skill we don’t see so often in the game now. You see one touch, two touch, move the ball on quickly, but seeing somebody dribble at the highest level, it almost feels a little bit like a throwback.”
