Man Utd name colossal asking price for Scott McTominay amid West Ham links

It's a lot of money.

Manchester United have named a hefty asking price for Scott McTominay, it has been claimed.

Having already signed Mason Mount and Andre Onana this summer for just shy of £100million, the club are looking to bring in Atlanta’s Rasmus Hojlund to bolster their forward line.

United will reportedly submit a bid for the Dane this week, having already agreed personal terms with the player.

Yet the Old Trafford club will allegedly pay no more than £60million for the forward, rather than Atalanta’s whopping £86million asking price, as the Premier League outfit looks to stay in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.

In turn, United need to sell before they buy, with academy product Anthony Elanga having already departed to Nottingham Forest for £15million, and Dean Henderson having been linked with a move away.

United have also reportedly told McTominay he can leave this summer, despite the midfielder having played the second half of a pre-season win against Arsenal.

The 26-year-old remains below Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and £60million summer arrival Mount in the midfield pecking order, while the form of Kobbie Mainoo will not have helped his cause either.

West Ham are allegedly interested in McTominay, with the Hammers looking to replace Declan Rice in midfield following his £105million move to Arsenal.

Yet according to TalkSPORT United have slapped a £40million asking price on the Scotland international’s head, which may deter the east Londoners.

McTominay made 39 appearances for United last season, including the club’s Carabao Cup final win.

Indeed, since joining the United in 2002 as a five-year-old, the Scot has made 209 appearances for the first team, netting 19 goals in that time.

However, McTominay is among a series of fringe players the club are looking to move on, with Harry Maguire, Fred and Donny van der Beek having also been linked with a move elsewhere.

Departures could be imminent, with Ten Hag having insisted the club are doing all they can to bring in a new forward.

Speaking in San Diego on United’s pre-season tour the Dutchman said: "We make progress but we know how it works.

“What I can say is we do everything in our power to get it done, for me, the earlier the better because we have to integrate him in the team, with the way of play.

"In an ideal situation, he was already here but you do not always get ideal situations as a manager and you have to deal with the situation."
